August Exams

Information for Students

  • Students are encouraged to contact their school or district for information regarding August exams.
  • Students may not use a provincial examination session to practise writing provincial examinations.
  • Only those exams required for graduation are offered.
  • If students are unable to locate a district/school in which to write their exam, their next option is to write the exam in the next available session offered by their school.
  • Students may use sample exams found at www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams to become familiar with types of exam questions and exam format.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to write a provincial examination, a student must be:

  • enrolled in a British Columbia public school (including a distance education school or a Continuing Education Centre), or
  • enrolled in a Group 1, 2 or 4 British Columbia independent school, or
  • registered as a home schooler with any of the above schools, or
  • enrolled in a British Columbia offshore school.

Students write August exams at designated schools or district locations as determined by individual school districts. Schools or districts not offering August exams may help students find another school at which to write. Schools are asked not to refer students to the Ministry as we can only direct them back to your school for assistance.
