The 4 Response

The four response is competent. Understanding of the poem is accurate but rather superficial or somewhat incomplete, certainly not imaginative. References are present and suitable, but may be limited to only part of the poem. The writing conveys the student's views in an organized, straightforward fashion; errors are present but generally not distracting. Overall, the student has good control of the conventions of language.

334 07 - The writer of this (high) four paper clearly shows understanding of the metaphor. The flow of the paper is hampered in the final paragraph by the writer’s attempt at specific explanation resulting in some misinterpretation.

145 10 - This four paper has a strong introduction with good integration of quotes. The second paragraph is noticeably weaker, due to repetition and lack of conclusion.

270 07 - The opening paragraph of this low four paper is repetitive and the analysis of the metaphor is weak. The strength of this paper lies in its understanding of the poem through its explanation and support in the final two paragraphs.
