A variety of research and report information is available from the Ministry of Education website. This guide may assist you to find the information you need.


Accountability Contracts

Every school district is required by law to submit an accountability contract to the Ministry of Education by October 31 of each year.

District Accountability contracts are available on the Ministry website. There are guidelines published for Accountability Contracts each year.


BC Student Performance/Reporting

Every year the Ministry of Education collects information about student achievement, enrolment and changes in the student population in BC schools. Ministry staff analyze that information and present it in reports.

This site identifies performance information and provides links to reports that measure the progress and evolution of the BC education system. On this page you will find an overview of the type of information and the different reports you can find on the Ministry website.


District/School Reports
Ministry of Education Report Selector

Once you are familiar with the reports you are interested in, the report selector page allows you to go to the reports you need and choose them by district or school (if applicable).

SPCs need the following reports most frequently:

  • Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) results,
  • Satisfaction Survey results
  • District Performance Reports: compilation includes demographics, exams, graduation, aboriginal, special education
  • School Performance Reports: compilation includes demographics, exams, transition, special education

These reports are available but needed less frequently by SPCs:

  • Enrolment Statistics: includes headcount by grade level, program, student groups; number of schools, teachers...
  • Teacher Statistics: includes number and gender of educators; age; salary...

School Planning Councils - A Survey of School Planning Councils in British Columbia 2004

This report presents findings and recommendations from a survey of School Planning Council (SPC) members in BC on how well SPCs are functioning in their legislated role after the transition year of 2002/2003 and one full year of operation.


District Review Reports

District Reviews are one component of the Ministry of Education's accountability framework and part of its commitment to student achievement and to public accountability for student results. The process is based on the best of international research on school and district improvement. The District Review is designed to provide feedback and recommendations to the district, the Ministry and the public regarding the school districts' work in improving student achievement. Twenty districts are reviewed each year.


Aboriginal Education Enhancement Agreements

An Enhancement Agreement (EA) is a working agreement between a school district, all local Aboriginal communities, and the Ministry of Education. EAs are designed to enhance the educational achievement of Aboriginal students. The EA establishes a collaborative partnership between Aboriginal communities and school districts that involves shared decision-making and specific goal setting to meet the educational needs of Aboriginal students.


School Plans

Many districts/schools have posted school plans. These are districts/schools who have posted their school plans. Please note that in some cases, school plans are posted on individual school websites.
