The province is giving every B.C. secondary school a copy of Remember, a music CD with an accompanying teaching guide to commemorate theYear of the Veteran and encourage discussion in schools about Remembrance Day and the contributions of veterans. The package also includes the music score and lyrics for the song"Tribute to Veterans", one of the selections on the CD.

The Remember CD includes:

• an interview with a lieutenant from Winnipeg;
• sounds of the Battle of Britain featuring air raid sirens;
• news broadcasts about the Normandy invasion and the liberation of Paris;
• Prime Minister Mackenzie King’s address following Germany’s surrender; and
• popular songs from the WWI and WWII era that deal with sentimentality and remembrance.

The unique features of the CD relate to the Social Studies 8-12 curriculum that covers Canada’s involvement in WWI and WWII and other international conflicts. The CD, teaching guide, music score and lyrics are tools that can be used to stimulate dialogue regarding the importance of the Year of the Veteran and the concept of remembrance.

Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth developed the teaching guide that accompanies the Remember CD, and has given permission to reproduce the guide.
