Questions and Answers

Q 1. How does policy work?

A A general informal overview is available for anyone who is interested in a definition of policy and who would like to know which agency is responsible for particular policies within the public education system.

Q 2. Why can't I find ministry policy on a particular subject?

A You may wish to try one of the following:

  • Have you tried the search function?
  • Have you tried sorting the ministry policies by title or topic and scanning the list?
  • Have you checked the Manual of School Law? Some policy is embedded in legislation (see the Policy Hierarchy). The manual is a very handy source for all ministry legislation and regulation.
  • Ministry policy may not exist on a particular subject as it may not be a ministry responsibility. If you have not found what you are seeking, please check school board policies? Or contact us and we will respond to your question within five working days.
  • You might find the answer you are looking for under Frequently Asked Questions: Other Topics.

Q 3. Why are ministry policies on a website?

A Most users find this is the most convenient method of reading up-to-date ministry policies.

Q 4. Who can I contact about a specific ministry policy?

A Each Ministry policy lists a contact who can answer any questions or provide further details on that policy. If you wish to comment about a ministry policy, please contact the Minister of Education.

Q 5. How can I be notified about changes to ministry policy?

A The ministry is pleased to provide an email subscription service so you can be notified about changes to ministry policy. The email subscription service can be found on the left hand side of each page at the bottom of the site navigation.

Q 6. How do I know what has been changed in a policy?

A If changes have been made to a policy, the changes will be summarized at the top of each individual policy page. See Find a Policy.

Q 7. What happened to ministry policy circulars?

A The term "policy circulars" is no longer used. Ministry policies have been reformatted for easier reading and posted on the web along with links to other relevant material such as guidelines, procedures, links and best practices.
