Legislation

Through the Manual of School Law, the Ministry of Education communicates new legislation to the K-12 school system and principal education partners.

The Office of the Registrar, Student Appeals, supports the student appeals process set out in Section 11 of the School Act, which provides for appeals of certain decisions made by board of education employees. The Registrar oversees the appeal case management system, the roster of mediators and adjudicators, and provides administrative support to the ministry’s Superintendents of Achievement during the appeal process.

The Ministry of Education is also responsible for the Library Act and associated regulations as the Public Library Services of the ministry provides leadership and support to public libraries.

The School Trustee Election Procedures in BC is a guide which brings together all relevant sections of the legislation governing general school elections. Organized as a sequential overview of the principle stages of an election, the guide is intended to serve as a quick reference for the lay-person or school board official.
