Legislation
The Governance and Legislation Branch is responsible for the development and review of all Ministry of Education legislation. It ensures that the Ministry's policies and initiatives conform with the law and have the necessary legislative authority.
In addition, the Branch provides Ministry officials with advice on legislative and legal matters. Through the Manual of School Law, the Branch communicates new legislation to the K-12 school system and principal education partners.
The Ministry of Education is also responsible for the Library Act and associated regulations as the Public Library Services Branch of the Ministry provides leadership and support to public libraries.
The School Trustee Election Procedures in BC is a guide which brings together all relevant sections of the legislation governing general school elections. Organized as a sequential overview of the principle stages of an election, the guide is intended to serve as a quick reference for the lay-person or school board official
The Governance and Legislation Branch is the Ministry of Education's primary liaison with the Ministry of Attorney General.
