Developing Science Skills and Processes

The skills and processes students use and develop in science courses are the same as those used by scientists at work. These are the tools they need to understand the workings of the world. The development of these skills and processes allows students to solve problems, think critically, make decisions, find answers, and satisfy their curiosity. The skills and processes shown in the Science Skills and Processes chart on page 8 are central to the presentation of all content and the delivery of instruction and assessment activities in classrooms. These skills and processes cannot be developed in isolation. They are best developed within the context of an expanding framework of knowledge.
