Workplace Program Guides

Workplace Program Guides

The following Program Guides have been developed by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Industry Training Authority (ITA) or other industry associations to assist teachers who instruct students receiving workplace-based training. These programs are designed to give students access to industry training while they are still in secondary school. Three of these Program Guides offer trades training that could lead to Level 1 Industry certification. These are:

  • Automotive Service Technician
  • Carpentry
  • Cook Training

This strategy began with the creation of Accelerated Credit Enrolment in Industry Training (ACE IT) programs for secondary students in fall 2004.

Work-based training
Work-based training is an integral expectation of any workplace program as it provides students opportunities to participate in and learn about the tasks, performance, and responsibilities related to an occupation.

Student Success
Student success in these programs will enhance their retention in schools and reduce the number of students leaving secondary school with no occupation-specific skills.
