SUGGESTED ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES
- Have students look through picture books to find illustrations of various human and animal family groupings (e.g., nuclear families, extended families; whale pod, lion pride, walrus colony).
- Read stories to students about human and animal families. Draw students attention to family groupings.
- Ask students to draw pictures of families. Then, as a class, compare various family groupings and discuss similarities and differences.
- Lead a class discussion to establish correct language for naming parts of the body. Alternatively, invite a qualified guest speaker to lead a discussion about characteristics that distinguish males from females.
- Ask students to bring a variety of seeds to the class and explain what plants will be produced. Students can then plant and care for their seeds.
- Take the class on a field trip to a farm, pet store, zoo, or park to see baby animals.
