- physical abuseany intentional use of physical force or action that causes or could cause injury
- emotional abusea pattern of putdown behaviour or verbal attacks, including belittling, demeaning, rejecting, terrorizing, isolating, or exploiting
- sexual abuseuse of a child or non-consenting adult for sexual gratification (includes touching)
- neglectfailure to provide for a childs basic needs (food, clothing, adequate shelter, supervision, medical care)
Have students suggest effective strategies for protecting themselves and others from each type of abuse (including telling someone).
- make an accurate assessment of the potential danger of the situation
- demonstrate appropriate preventive or avoidance behaviours
- demonstrate assertiveness through appropriate body language and speech
- include details that show their level of understanding
