Rationale
There is an increasing awareness of the importance of providing students with meaningful and enjoyable movement experiences. Regular physical activity enhances student learning, concentration, problem- solving abilities, and social skills, which contribute to student achievement and well- being. Physical education, therefore, is an integral part of the total education process for students.
Social and Emotional Development
Participation in enjoyable physical activities both at school and in the community
motivates students to develop healthy, active lifestyles. Physical education also
contributes to increased self- confidence by encouraging students to respect themselves
and others.
Career Development
Through a variety of competitive and co- operative physical activities and related
volunteer work and service, students learn to solve problems and develop communication, teamwork, and leadership skills useful in their future careers. In addition, physical education provides the specific skills and knowledge students need to pursue careers such as fitness training, therapy, recreational- facilities management, coaching, teaching, and sports administration.
