Curriculum Implementation Schedule

Implementation ScheduleCurriculum Updates - April 2011

A complete listing of all ministry curricula is contained in the Education Program Guide Order, M333/99 (PDF, 67KB).  The following chart provides an update of curricula to this order, with the curricula documents that are currently in the process of being finalized and/or are to be ready for implementation. Other curricula are status quo.

The Required Areas of Study in an Educational Program Order, M165/08 (PDF, 35KB), lists the required areas of study in an educational program that BC students in each of the grades from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are required to study.  Ministry curricula contain the Prescribed Learning Outcomes that are to be used to teach the required areas of study.

Optional implementation refers to a transition period in which boards of education have the option of using the updated curriculum or the existing curriculum. Full implementation refers to curricula that must be used and that have replaced the former/older versions (i.e. former/older versions are no longer valid), or curricula that is new and available for use.

Curriculum documents and learning resources can be found via the following websites:

  1. Ministry approved curriculum documents
  2. Drafts of curriculum documents under revision
  3. The listing of Ministry recommended learning resources (Catalogue of Learning Resources)

Information concerning the Graduation Program and which courses can be used to satisfy the Graduation requirements, can be found in the Graduation Requirements Policy and in the Course Information Book, respectively.
