Overview

Over three class periods, students worked in groups to develop sports mimes as an initial Grade 7 drama activity to introduce the importance of trust and teamwork, and to provide students with an opportunity to explore ways of using dramatic form to share their ideas. Evaluation was based on social and group skills that students demonstrated as they worked together.

Planning for Assessment and Evaluation

Before this activity, students had participated in a variety of group warmup activities and games in which they worked with objects in mime. The teacher had also introduced the importance of teamwork in drama, asking students to brainstorm a list of what co-operation looks like, sounds like, doesn't look like, and doesn't sound like.

Each group collaborated to complete a group self-evaluation form. The teacher collected these and wrote brief responses.

Individual Self-Assessmen

After working together to complete the group evaluation, students responded individually in their journals. They exchanged journals within their group, and each student wrote one comment for the other group members.
