Federation of Independent School Associations in British Columbia

The Federation of Independent School Associations (FISA) is an umbrella association for independent school groups in British Columbia and acts as a spokesperson and advocate for its members. It represents over 90 percent of the independent school enrolment in the province. It also acts as a liaison among the independent school groups and the government, and other educational institutions.

The independent school groups represented on the FISA Board are as follows:

  • Associate Member Group (AMG)
  • Association of Christian Schools International - BC (ACSIBC)
  • Catholic Independent Schools (CIS)
  • Independent Schools Association (ISA)
  • Society of Christian Schools in British Columbia (SCSBC)

The Associate Member Group (AMG) includes schools that are founded to implement a particular educational philosophy or to serve a specific constituency - for example, nonconventional instructional methods, or a particular religious/cultural perspective or special learning need, etc. The AMG includes Jewish, Sikh, Muslim, Mormon, Parochial, First Nations, Montessori, Waldorf, Special Needs and Evangelical Protestant schools.

The FISA web site includes contact information for its member groups, as well as a directory of independent schools which includes reference to the school specialty and their web sites.
