Independent SchoolsThe Office of the Inspector of Independent Schools is responsible for administering the Independent School Act, which includes the regulation of all independent schools, funded and non-funded. Independent schools offer parents an alternative to a public school education.
Some parents in British Columbia choose to send their children to independent schools because these schools provide a particular religious, cultural, philosophical or educational approach. See the Overview
of Independent Schools in British Columbia (PDF, 42KB) for an overview of the history, rights and accountability, as well as parental choice in independent schools. Consult the BC Guide for Independent Schools for procedural guidelines and regulation of independent schools, and for information regarding independent schools teacher certification. |
