Personalized learning for each student in British Columbia means a shift from a set of broad, uniform learning outcomes and courses, to learning that is increasingly student-initiated and self directed. It is learning that is co-planned with students, parents, and teachers

Full School Day Kindergarten
Information on implementation of full-day kindergarten and other enhanced early learning opportunities.

ReadNow BC Kindergarten Learning Project - Assessment and Support Materials
Tools and strategies to help kindergarten teachers, parents, and school administrators support children's learning in five areas of early literacy: oral language, social responsibility, reading and viewing, writing and representing, and numeracy.

ReadNow BC Tools for Parents
Creating an environment of family literacy at home is important to a child's development. These tools will help you prepare your child to be successful in their learning.

Neighbourhood Learning Centres
School districts are working with community partners and organizations to find unique and innovative ways to design schools with community use in mind and create places where people have better access to educational and community services.

Curriculum Grade Level Packages K-9
These documents contain Prescribed Learning Outcomes and Suggested Achievement Indicators for each grade.

Open School BC K-12 Resources for Students
K-12 resources designed to address learning outcomes and compliment what students are learning in school. Open School BC has many complete courses, as well as supplementary resources to provide students with extra help.

Aboriginal Education
The Aboriginal Education Enhancements Branch is working together with school districts to improve school success for all Aboriginal students and increase knowledge of Aboriginal language, culture and history within the public school system.

School Planning Councils
Made up of parents, teachers and principals, School Planning Councils (SPCs) develop school plans to improve student achievement.

Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA)
FSA is administered annually to all B.C. students in Grades 4 and 7. The foundation skills assessment tests student ability in Reading Comprehension, Writing and Numeracy. See QAs and the Information for Parents Brochure (PDF, 518KB) for more information.

Satisfaction Survey
Satisfaction surveys, administered annually as part of the accountability cycle, gather opinions from students, parents and school staff on achievement, human and social development, and safety.

Public Libraries
The Public Library Services Branch assists public libraries through a variety of programs and services. These include support through grants, advice and information, training initiatives, interlibrary loan support and library-related publications.
