The publications available here are primarily designed to help administrators, teachers, trustees and health promotion professionals enhance health in schools, but may also be of use to parents and students.

  • The Healthy Living For Families booklets are designed to help you make smart healthy choices, with tips on everything from healthy eating on the run to being active together as a family. You'll also find some guidelines on things like choosing healthier foods and balancing different kinds of physical activity.

  • School Food Sales and Policies Provincial Report II (2008) [365KB] New icon
    The School Food Sales and Policies Provincial Report II (2008) measures progress on the elimination of unhealthy foods and beverages in BC public schools since 2005, and assesses the impact of the Guidelines for Food and Beverages (2005) on reaching this goal. The report also assesses the economic impact of school food and beverage sales, identifies opportunities for action, and highlights examples of progress in schools and districts province-wide.
  • Schools and districts are encouraged to work with students, teachers, parents and others to develop strategies for implementing these guidelines. FAQs for Education Professionals [48KB].
  • Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Learning Resource is a Kindergarten to Grade 10 grade-by-grade set of healthy eating and physical activity classroom-based lesson plans for the BC public school system. Ministry of Health, in partnership with Ministry of Education, developed the learning resources in consultation with students, teachers and health professionals. They are congruent with and meet minimum prescribed learning outcomes in Health and Career Education from Kindergarten to Grade 9 and Planning 10.

    Grade 8, 9 and 10 have been distributed to public and independent schools across the province. French translated versions will be available in spring 2008. Kindergarten to Grade 7 will be available Fall 2008 (Stay tuned).
