Active Living

Lack of physical activity is associated with many disease risk factors, and being physically active has been shown to be a protective factor for many chronic diseases and illnesses.  Physical activity is an essential ingredient for healthy growth and development which is why improving the physical activity levels of British Columbians is one of the major goals of ActNow BC.  ActNow BC, a health and wellness initiative was launched in 2005 with the aim to make BC the healthiest jurisdiction to host an Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Physical activity is also a common area of focus for comprehensive school health initiatives.  The Ministry of Education’s Healthy Schools Unit has several key initiatives and resources to promote physical activity including Daily Physical Activity, Action Schools! BC. and the Healthy Living for Families booklets.
