Healthy Schools

The concept of healthy schools has emerged out of a global movement that recognizes two key ideas:

  • healthy children are better able to learn, and
  • schools can directly influence children’s health.

Of the four major systems of influence affecting children (family, friends or peers, school and community) the school is well-suited to being structured and mobilized to support societal goals. Based on this, and in line with its provincial, territorial and federal partners, British Columbia is promoting policy development and practice that reflect a comprehensive school health approach.
