2014/15 Exam Specifications - Effective September 2014 through August 2015.
Changes and Revisions
-
An updated graphing tool will be replacing the existing one. This change will be reflected in the FMP 10 Sample/Practice exams by early October, 2014, and will be incorporated into the 2014/15 FMP 10 Provincial examinations. This tool will allow students to revise previously saved work if they return to a question.
Specifications
- The Table of Specifications and Description of the Examination (PDF, 49KB) shows teachers and students how the Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10 curriculum will be tested on the provincial examinations. The Table of Specifications provides percentage weightings for each of the curriculum organizers and the relative weighting of each cognitive process.
- Curriculum Connections (PDF, 183KB) provides a detailed description of each examinable prescribed learning outcome. The Mathematical Processes (PDF, 203KB) associated with each outcome are described in the introduction section of The Common Curriculum Framework for Grades 10-12 Mathematics.
- The provincial examination will represent 20% of the student's final letter grade and the classroom mark will represent 80%.
There may be a difference between school marks and provincial examination marks for individual students. Some students perform better on classroom assessments and others on provincial examinations. Also, school assessments measure performance on all curricular outcomes and mathematical processes, whereas provincial examinations evaluate performance on all the outcomes but only on a sample of mathematical processes.
- Cognitive Processes (PDF, 67KB), provides a description of what each cognitive process means.
- The Data Pages (PDF, 439KB), provide a list of unit conversion factors as well as various formulae. A copy of this document will be included as a reference for students in the Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10 provincial examination.
Students should have their own ruler with cm/mm and inches (1/16ths) even if rulers are provided in the Data Pages. Students will need to have their own protractor; they can use the following example (PDF, 399KB) before the exam takes place or printed on a transparency by a teacher.
- The use of a scientific calculator is required to answer some of the questions on the exam. Other than the approved type of calculator, students are not allowed to use any other electronic device.
Samples
- Sample Examinations show the format of an examination and the balance of questions across the curriculum organizers.
- The Teacher Version A and Teacher Version B of the sample examinations include a number of comments that clarify the terminology or intent of a question. They also provide some alternative solutions or state expectations for student learning, whenever appropriate.
- Additional sample questions provide extra practice in concepts which students may find more challenging as well as providing students with an opportunity to practise the use of e-tools which they will encounter on the electronic exams.
