The 4 Response

The four essay is competent. References are present and suitable, but may be limited to only part of the text. The assertions in the four essay tend to be simplistic. There are no significant errors in reading. The writing is able to convey the writer's views in an organized, straightforward fashion; errors are present but generally not distracting. Overall, the student has good control of the conventions of language.

130 04 - This low four paper is competent because of its reasonable understanding of the father’s character. Quotations are present and suitable but awkwardly integrated. The reader is aware of spelling errors and inaccurate clichés: example "hard knock preacher", "..stuck to his guns".

60 16 - Although this four paper is well organized with a clear thesis statement, the focus is primarily limited to a single aspect of the father’s character. It is repetitious and therefore not engaging.

43 11 - This strong four essay is competent. The first paragraph has good integration of quotations but lacks direction. The characteristics of the father are clearly stated; however, the reader is aware of some awkward sentence structure. The final paragraph lacks organization and is therefore inconclusive.
