- forward student requests for all other Grade 12 exam responses to the Ministry by completing and faxing the Provincial Examinations Review Request Form
[27 KB]; - For the purposes of informing reread decisions, make the review request two weeks prior to the ministry reread request deadline;
- arrange a secure setting for students to review their individual responses in conjunction with the secure exam question booklets that are contained in the Principal's Secure Resource Set;
- ensure that the Security requirements outlined in Chapter 1 of the Handbook of Procedures have been followed;
- securely destroy the students' individual response sheets and booklets after students have completed their exam review.
Schools are responsible for registering you for exam sessions during the school year. Discuss your rewrite options with your school counsellor.
In either graduation program, to rewrite a provincial exam more than once, you must retake the course. If you retake the course before you rewrite for the first time, you cannot carry over the first rewrite opportunity. Once you take the course again you can write the exam, then rewrite the exam once within the following twelve months. For further information, please refer to Rewrites in the Handbook of Procedures.
If you retake a course and you are satisfied with your previous exam mark, you do not have to rewrite the provincial exam (providing you retake the course within twelve months of writing the exam for the first time).
Students who wish to review exam questions from a past exam they have written, prior to making rewrite or reread decisions, should make arrangements with their principals to view the secure exam booklets that are contained in the Principal's Secure Resource Set. If you choose to rewrite a Grade 12 exam in August you will be writing it at one of the August Exam Centres. Grade 10, 11 or BC First Nations Studies 12 provincial exams are offered in August and must be pre-registered through your school or district. Ask your school's counselor or principal in June for August exam information (e.g., if your district is offering August exams, where the exams will be written and when to pre-register). The August exam schedule is included in the Handbook of Procedures.
If a school district offers summer school in an examinable Grade 10, 11 or BC First Nations Studies 12 course, you must be pre-registered by the summer school and will be advised by the summer school as to where to write your exam.
Results for August Grade 10, 11 and 12 exam results are issued to students and schools via Student Secure Web at the end of the first week in September.There are no exceptions for providing the August results earlier than this date.
The results from the August exams are not available for September post-secondary institutions' admission decisions.

If you question a mark received on a Grade 10, 11 or BC First Nations Studies 12 provincial examination, you may request a rereading of the examination (a "reread") through your school administration office.
You may request rereads of the following written-response sections of your Grade 10, 11 or BC First Nations Studies 12 provincial examinations: English 10, Français langue première 10, Social Studies 11, Civic Studies 11 and BC First Nations Studies 12.

Information for Schools:
When rereading/marking a student's exam responses, teachers will generally not know the marks a student received from the first time the written-response questions were marked. This will help to ensure an unbiased reread process.
Reporting Reread Marks to the Ministry
Schools should report provincial exam reread marks to the Ministry using the Grades 10, 11 and BC First Nations Studies 12 Reread Submission Form
[18 KB] by the Grade 12 examination reread deadline dates published in the Handbook of Procedures. Late forms will not be processed.
Students may have access to their exam responses under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Section 3. However, because provincial examinations are "secure", changes in the way that students can access their completed exams balance an individual student’s right of access to his or her personal information against the interests of all students. Secure exams will provide students with additional exam sessions and greater parity from session to session. Students may want to review their exam responses prior to making decisions regarding a reread or rewrite of a provincial exam. Students who wish to review their exam responses as a means of informing their reread decisions must ensure the review request is submitted two weeks in advance of the reread deadline for their request to be processed. While every effort will be made to fill review requests prior to the next exam session, due to the timing of exam sessions and volume of exam review requests received by the Ministry, it may not be possible for students to review their responses in time for rewriting the exam at the next exam session.
Please note: the procedure for requesting examination reviews has changed. Principals are now required to complete the Grade 12 Provincial Examinations Review Request Form
[27 KB]and fax it into the ministry. The form must be signed by both the principal and the student for the request to be processed.
