Early Learning Initiatives

Ready, Set, Learn

Children who have their own books and are read to by their families get off to a flying start as learners.

The Province's Ready, Set, Learn initiative recognizes that families need positive connections with the school system and community agencies that provide relevant resources and information.

The Ministry of Education is providing resources to support Ready, Set, Learn events in local schools. Families and their three-year-olds who attend will receive:

  • an age-appropriate book for the child
  • any additional information the school district or school wants to include about their programs or community services
  • any additional items chosen by the school to influence school readiness

If you participate in a Ready, Set, Learn event at your local school your child will receive an age-appropriate book. Please take the time to read it with your child and to talk about the illustrations. Give your child the gift of reading and have fun spending time together. The parent booklet Ready, Set, Learn: Helping your preschooler get ready for school (PDF, 1.31 MB) offers parents helpful tips for supporting their preschooler’s learning and development.

Translations of the booklet Ready, Set, Learn: Helping your preschooler get ready for school are available in a number of languages.
