Capital Funding Unit
School boards are required to submit capital plans to the Ministry of Education every year.
The annual plans outline boards’ priorities for capital investment in their school facilities over a 5-year period.
The Capital Funding Unit assists school districts with the development of these long-term capital plans for:
-
new and replacement schools
-
expansions and renovations to existing schools
-
school buses
The unit allocates funding for new capital projects and manages approvals for school construction projects through feasibility studies and project agreements. These define a project’s scope, schedule and budget. The unit then tracks capital projects from the design stage through to completion.
Capital Funding also manages the Seismic Mitigation Program, which is currently underway across the province to make schools safe in the event of an earthquake.
