Partnerships and Planning Division

Deputy Minister

The Partnerships & Planning Division oversees strategic initiatives and programs that strengthen cross-government partnerships and maintain a focus on student-centred service delivery.

The division is composed of several branches and program areas:

Corporate Planning helps the ministry anticipate and respond to education priorities, by:

  • developing the ministry's service plan and annual service plan report
  • monitoring the implementation of core services
  • planning for and implementing changes to meet business goals

Intergovernmental Relations represents BC's education interests at the local, provincial, national and international levels by building partnerships with other governments and education partners.

Internal Communications & Partner Relations plans and implements strategic projects, events and communication initiatives to increase staff and education-partner awareness and understanding of current and emerging priorities. The branch maintains a close relationship with the Public Affairs Bureau and Liaison Division to ensure effective and consistent communications with staff and partners.

Literacy and Early Learning initiatives and strategies are a key part of the division's and ministry's mandate. The ministry is leading the cross-government literacy strategy to make BC the best-educated, most-literate jurisdiction on the continent.

Public Library Services provides leadership for BC's public libraries through advice, training, funding and support for a number of programs. Including public libraries within the larger mandate of the Ministry of Education underscores their importance as a key partner in the government’s literacy initiative and emphasis on life long learning.

Healthy Schools programming supports another of government's great goals, to lead the way to healthy living and physical fitness in North America. The Health Promoting Schools branch is an example of an innovative partnership with the Ministry of Health and promotes policy development and practices to increase healthy living in school settings, including Action Schools! BC, the Joint Consortium on School Health , and others.

CommunityLINK provides funding to all 60 school boards to support the academic achievement of vulnerable students through initiatives such as breakfast and lunch programs and after-school care.
