Liaison Division

Deputy Minister

The Liaison Division’s work involves building connections and networks among BC’s education partners, schools and districts, so we can all work together to improve student achievement.

Generally, the division is responsible for leadership development, partner liaison, stakeholder analysis, and supervising and assessing learning. It places a strong emphasis on communications that share best practices, and is responsible for bringing field-based information to the deputy minister’s and minister’s offices.

Division staff play a trouble-shooting role to help districts and school personnel resolve emerging issues. Liaison also facilitates connections between ministry Divisions and the school districts and partner organizations to improve implementation of ministry policy, initiatives and directions.

Specific division responsibilities include:

  • planning and managing deputy minister’s meetings with superintendents, trustees, principals, parents and others as needed
  • contacting, advising and assisting superintendents new to their roles, particularly those in rural districts
  • contributing to and participating in the British Columbia Education Leadership Council’s programs
  • participating in the Education Advisory Committee
  • facilitating and managing the appointment of special advisors as required
  • developing and implementing strategies to promote and enhance rural education opportunities
  • facilitating liaison between school districts and the Virtual School
