ReadNow BC Communities
Communities are where we live, learn, work and play. More than 300 communities in British Columbia are involved with community literacy planning and all 60 school districts are involved in district literacy planning.

ReadNow BC District Literacy Plans
In collaboration with community partners, districts have completed comprehensive literacy plans. The plans support all members of the community, from early learners to adults. District literacy and community literacy guides are available here.

Literacy Now Communities Program
A 2010 Legacies Now program which guides communities through a planning process to identify local literacy needs.

StrongStart BC Early Learning Programs
Designed to provide opportunities for parents and caregivers to observe and practice activities that support early learning, and to meet and make connections with other families attending the centre.

Neighbourhood Learning Centres
Learn more about this government’s vision for planning the use of new school space to create places where people have better access to educational and community services.

Communities

Public Library Services
The Public Library Services assists public libraries through a variety of programs and services. These include support through grants, advice and information, training initiatives, interlibrary loan support and library-related publications.

Community Adult Literacy Program (CALP)
A key component of B.C.'s adult literacy strategy is support for community-based programs. This is a Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development literacy initiative.

English Language Learning Settlement Assistance Program (SAP)
Through this Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development program, community groups and their program partners provide tutoring for immigrants and refugees in small and remote B.C. communities to help them improve their English while learning about the Canadian way of life.
