Volunteering |
|
|
Volunteering is an excellent method of building skills and gaining experience in an area you find interesting. Many volunteer positions have led to full- or part-time employment. Volunteering is also a great way to contribute to the community. You can volunteer locally, across the country or around the world. We have selected some of the more comprehensive sites that offer volunteer information. Canadian Alliance for Development Initiatives and Projects (CADIP) is a non-profit Canadian organization based in Vancouver that organizes short term voluntary service projects for youth in Canada and internationally, focusing on charity work with underprivileged and disadvantaged children, care for people with special needs, environmental protection, restoration and conservation work, and cultural events and festivities. Volunteer Canada is the national charitable umbrella organization of Canadian volunteer centres mandated to promote the growth of volunteerism in Canada. The association supports and facilitates the work of volunteers, volunteer centres, and voluntary organizations in Canada, and works to develop resources and skills within the volunteer sector. The web site contains a list of volunteer centres across Canada, by province. Katimavik sends Canadian Youth to work in community-service programs in different parts of Canada. Youth who participate in this nine-month program also receive second-language course instruction. Charity Village maintains a list of organizations in Canada and abroad that provide volunteer opportunities as well as a list of current positions available. Youth Challenge International (YCI) combines community development, health work and environmental research in adventurous projects conducted by international teams of volunteers aged 18-25 years. A worldwide network of Youth Challenge organizations operates in Costa Rica, Australia, Guyana and South America. Specially selected volunteer participants, called Challengers, work alongside local volunteers in remote communities. For short-term and long-term international voluntary placements and organizations, the Association of Voluntary Service Organizations has a wide range of volunteer placements around the world, as well as general information on voluntary service. |
