Employment readiness Programs in Tourism

The following programs offer front-line level training for tourism employees. They are available throughout the province and are offered most commonly through individual, short-term seminars. SuperHost

SuperHost Face to Face programs create your first step towards a career in tourism. These series of one day and half day customer service workshops were developed to give you a competitive advantage. These four dynamic and interactive workshops give everyone an opportunity to improve their customer service skills.

FoodSafe

FoodSafe is an extensive food sanitation training program designed for workers in the food service industry. It contains curriculum and instructor's guides, sample quizzes, slide sets, overheads, handouts and videos. The program is offered at two levels:

Level I (Basic): microbiology, food-borne illness, personal hygiene and health, serving and dispensing, food protection and preparation, receiving and storing food safely, warewashing methods (8 hours).

Note: FoodSafe (Level I) Basic program is available by correspondence. The format is now in three sections, each supported by a workbook and video. Information and registration is now available through go2 - The resource for people in tourism.

Level II (Advanced): emerging food-borne illnesses, establishment design and maintenance, managing sanitary practice and an introduction to HACCP (7 hours). Contact your local health department for further information.

Serving it Right

Serving It Right is a correspondence program that covers the legal rights and responsibilities regarding intoxication, liquor regulations and duty of care to patrons. The Licensee Course fee is $48 and the Server Course fee is $28.
