Secondary School Apprenticeship is a provincial career program that enables students to move directly into the apprenticeship training system while attending high school. Secondary school apprenticeship is a combination of the K-12 education system and the apprenticeship training system leading to both graduation and ongoing apprenticeship training.

The program consists of practical skill development through paid work place-based training and can involve technical training. Since you can register as an apprentice as early as age 15, you can start accumulating hours toward certification in a trade while taking graduation courses relevant to your career path. And if you successfully complete secondary school apprenticeship, and continue on in the apprenticeship training system, you may be eligible for a scholarship of $1,000.

Through secondary school apprenticeship, you become better prepared to enter the world of work with appropriate skills and attitudes. This program offers an introduction to apprenticeship which can lead to journeyperson status and further lifelong learning.

Check out more about apprenticeship training for youth on the Learn and Earn website.

For general information on secondary school apprenticeship contact your school counselor or Career Programs coordinator, your regional Apprenticeship co-ordinator or the Ministry of Education.
