Alternatives to college or university

  • a range of short-term training programs that will get you working as soon as possible in areas like the tourism industry.

  • how you can start working as an apprentice while still in high school under the Secondary School Apprenticeship program.

What are the alternatives to post-secondary education, training, or going to work?

  • For those of you that can afford it or have yet to leave home, volunteering is an excellent way for building employment skills, gain experience in an area you find interesting and make the world a better place.

  • Maybe you have a career and education path in mind already, but first you want to explore the world. Travel and volunteer work can offer opportunity for personal growth and skill building. These activities are also great for those who have yet to decide on a career path and need some space, time and a different environment to contemplate options.
