Post school Options and Opportunities

From school to work …to school. Today's generation is expected to have four or five work changes over a lifetime. Important for your teen to reflect on is that 70% of all new jobs over the next ten years will require more that high school education and in 1999 20% of BC's labour force is self employed. So preparing for the futures means understanding all options and opportunities. Your teen's first post-secondary educational program, work experience, training, or activity is only one step towards building a career. As a career develops, the way work is accomplished will change and for many, new areas of interest will emerge. Many successful careers blend various types of work experience and post-secondary training options to prepare for new opportunities.

Help your teen research all the possible routes towards achieving their goals.

Parent Strategies

Guide your teen to success in the year 2000 by helping them choose post school options and opportunities that meet their future goals. Help your teen gather information regarding a particular field of work and then map out the alternatives to gain entry into that field of work. Explore length of time and cost for post-secondary education or how to look for work if your teen is advancing straight to the work place.
