Currently, 60 percent of all jobs are standard, meaning workers are employed full-time, all year by a single employer. However, non-standard work is an emerging trend poised to continue and grow beyond the year 2000. Non-standard work refers to workers who earn a living through part-time work, contract work or self-employment. According to William Bridges, author of Job Shift and You and Co., the world of work is radically changing and with it so are jobs. How we work, when we work and where we work has been affected by the advance of technology.
How does this trend impact teens? For teens entering the work force in the year 2000 and beyond, this means that they must build their self-management skills including computer skills, accounting skills, organizational skills and teamwork skills.
