Frequently Asked Questions

There is a wide range of private post-secondary institutions operating in British Columbia. Private post-secondary institutions offer programs of study in such areas as aviation, business and computer training, hospitality and tourism, hairdressing and English as a Second Language.

While private post-secondary institutions must register with the province, their programs are not accredited by the provincial government. They may, however, apply for institutional accreditation from the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA) . Accreditation is mandatory in BC only if the institution seeks to become designated for student loans funding (BCSAP). This PCTIA web site maintains a list of all registered institutions, along with their locations, contact information, list of programs offered, and whether the institution is accredited.

The School Finder web site provides an extensive list of private post-secondary training institutions in Canada under the heading "Career Colleges". It is sorted alphabetically or by province. Successful searches will provide links to information summaries of each institution, ranging from an address only to detailed summaries including a profile, admission requirements, fees, facilities, programs and contacts.
