There is a wide range of private post-secondary institutions operating in British Columbia. Private post-secondary institutions offer programs of study in such areas as aviation, business and computer training, hospitality and tourism, hairdressing and English as a Second Language.

While private post-secondary institutions must register with the province, their programs are not accredited by the provincial government. They may, however, apply for institutional accreditation from the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA) . Accreditation is mandatory in BC only if the institution seeks to become designated for student loans funding (BCSAP).
