Frequently Asked Questions

Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) programs are offered by BC's public colleges and institutes. They provide students with basic theoretical and practical knowledge in various trades, whether as pre-employment or pre-apprenticeship training. Most programs involve formal, institution-based instruction lasting three to 12 months.

Various programs are offered through the post-secondary training system (e.g., automotive, service technician, carpenter, heavy duty mechanic, electrician). For more detailed information about which programs are offered in your region, contact your local college or BCIT. If you know what training area you are interested in, you may search for institutions that offer the program on the Opening Doors web site which profiles all programs offered at B.C. post-secondary institutions.
