There are more than 1,900 programs offered by post-secondary institutions in British Columbia. For all institutions in Canada, the number of programs becomes huge. Luckily there are a number of databases to help you find institutions that offer programs you may be interested in pursuing. Before searching for programs offered in BC you may want to become familiar with some of the credential definitions for Associate Degree, Apprenticeship, Bachelors Degree, Certificate and Diploma. BC Program AreasEducation Planner is a searchable database providing admissions information on over 1,500 programs at 27 public post-secondary institutions in BC. The Education Planner web site enables users to find programs by field of study, subject area, length of program, region, institution, and type of credential, and then compare things such as application dates, tuition costs, and admission requirements. The site also has valuable information on student loans and awards, student services offered by the institutions, and access to occupational information and the online post-secondary application service. Canada Program AreasThe Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada produces a Directory of Canadian Universities which can help you discover where various courses are available in Canada. Instead of browsing through all the web sites of Canadian universities, search the AUCC database. It contains records of more than 10,000 of undergraduate and graduate programs, and allows you to tailor your search by province, level of program and discipline. Drop-down menus allow you to quickly organize your search. School Finder has a database searchable by keyword, post-secondary institution and province. Results of program searches lead to a list of institutions and summarized information about each one. The database includes an extensive list of private training institutions. Specific searches can be done using drop-down menus and a range of search criteria. Key word searches can also be conducted, but it is difficult to obtain specific information. For example, a search under "Business Administration" will give a list of all institutions offering programs with the words business and/or administration in the title. |
