Career and Applied Programs
Co-operative Education
Co-operative Education programs are educational programs designed locally to provide students with opportunities to explore one or more careers. These programs can offer a mixture of: career exploration, pre-employment training, skills enhancement, and work experience placements.
While Co-operative Education programs emphasize generic employment skills and work experience, they are also designed to provide a curriculum connection to the exploration of a career pathway.
Co-operative Education programs allow students to:
- Utilize resources in the community that may help them make a career choice
- Complete secondary school graduation while exploring career interests and abilities through special projects in their regular courses
- Learn, and apply, pre-employment skills
- Explore a variety of careers by work placements in several different, or related, industry sectors
- Learn advanced applied skills by undertaking special projects in the school, community or workplace
- Enhance knowledge in a specialized area to assist in a career choice or post-secondary transition
