Career and Applied Programs

Career Development Overview

Career development is one of the three goals of education from kindergarten to grade 12. Career development has been identified as a cross-curricular area that is integrated into all curriculum.

Career development is also one of the primary organizers in the curriculum for Personal Planning K-7 and Career and Personal Planning 8-12. Personal Planning K-7 focuses on students’ personal development and how their schooling and extra-curricular activities relate to their future plans and to life after school.

Career and Personal Planning 8-12 (CAPP) is designed to help students develop personal, career and educational goals, and to establish plans to achieve these goals. The career development section of this curriculum has three components: career skills awareness, career exploration, and career preparation.

At the senior level, grades 11 and 12 students also have the option of enrolling in Career Programs. These programs provide more focused career development activities and courses, including extended work experience placements.
