When they work in the New Media Industry!!

New Media or Mixed Media is the design
(or redesign) and organization of information for the purpose of more effective
communication.
This industry uses the computer
to combine the elements of film/video production with those of music, sound, animation
and written content, These elements are converted into an electronic format which
can be directed to a variety of users. The design and creation of web sites, enhanced
CD's, laser disks and interactive networks and software are all examples of New
Media communications products.
New Media is a
Tool
The interactive
nature of the New Media Industry has created career opportunities which cross
over into both the Motion Picture and the Music Industries.
Similarly, those with skills and
talent developed from experience working in either music or film have been able
to utilize those skills in the New Media Industry.
Those who have found success working
with New Media come from a variety of backgrounds. Most are artists and craftspersons
who have worked in film/video/television production, the music industry, animation,
journalism, audio, and/or electronic arts. They have used New Media technology
as the tool to apply their skills.
Linking Up
Not only are there occupational links
between the Motion Picture and Music industry, but New Media technology has direct
career linkages with both of these areas:

spirit. |
Entrepreneurship
is a Must!
Most companies
within the New Media Industry in BC are considered small businesses.
There are a variety of ways to
become a part of the New Media workforce. Because the technology is rapidly changing,
some jobs are so new that they don't even have names yet! Job descriptions change
frequently; and job progression is, relatively, undefined. This growing industry
is "wide-open" and fast-paced as new career opportunities are constantly
emerging.
If you are aiming for a career
in this industry, you will likely work as a freelance specialist. Work is highly
competitive and often available on a part-time basis only. You may work on a number
of projects simultaneously, or use this industry as a secondary source of income.
You will need all of your business, marketing and networking skills to find work.
Your attitude, personality and skill level will net you the referrals that you
will need to find the next job.
