Art I know... I know! Reading about a web site can be really boring.

And many people don't even bother reading this stuff! Why? They think that they can't learn anything. They're usually the same ones who walk out of a movie as the credits are rolling; or have never really bothered to have a look at the phenomenal numbers of people who are credited on a CD cover. They haven't put it together that all those people were paid to do the work that they do - and paid well. Working in films or music is their jobs!!! And without those people, we wouldn't see one image on a screen; or hear one note of music through our sound systems.

But you've figured it out! You're curious! You're interested! After all, you're here! You just may be the kind of person that the Motion Picture, Music and New Media industries are looking for.

So read on! Take it all in! Find out more about Whodunit!

The Plot Thickens

The Sponsor.........Pacific Music Industry Association

The Pacific Music Industry Association (PMIA) is BC's resource organization for information about the music business. Our members range from the creative community -- songwriters, performers, producers -- to those who organize business for them -- managers, agents -- and all the services and goods produced for the industry, from studios to retailers to music instructors.

If you are doing research on the music industry for school, or are looking into a career yourself, you should know that PMIA publishes a number of documents: The Canadian Pacific Music Industry Directory, the bimonthly Pacific Music News, Getting Into: The A.C.T. A Practical Guide to Arts Career Trends in British Columbia, The Study of the B.C. Music Industry, and World of Opportunity (music industry case studies). We also carry resource material in the office for the world market for members. We sponsor such events as New Music West, and produce workshops and showcases for BC artists and music business people.

Our focus is the "business" of music. We also are the contact for funding resources in the industry. As most of us in the music business began as volunteers - in offices, at shows and other special events (festivals, in particular, make great use of volunteers). If you are looking to get your foot in the door, PMIA can help you identify opportunities for volunteerism.

So, keep informed! Be sure to check out our web site for the most up-to-date info on what's happening in BC Music!

The Designer.........Tim Horsfall

Calling on years of self-taught computer and graphics experience and, together with Laurie's vision and guidance, Tim was able to create an intuitive and clean interface for the Web site. Care was also taken to ensure the Web site was "friendly" to older Web browsers.
