Guide to University & College Prerequisites

Malaspina University College

A. Acceptable for General Admission:

High school graduation (or deficient in no more than two courses) or mature student status (19 years or older). Special Admission status is also available (for applicants under age 19).

B. Acceptable for Calculation of GPA for Admissions:

Not applicable.

C. Prerequisites for Specific Programs:

English/Language Arts:

  • Acceptable for entry level training programs and some trades/applied programs (i.e. Office Administration).
  • Along with Language Proficiency Index (LPI) Test (essay score of 4 or better plus an average of 50% on the remaining sections), Technical and Professional Communications 12 can be used for admission to university and career technical programs.

Mathematics:

  • Principles of Math 11 and 12 and Applications of Math 11 and 12 are acceptable as meeting general entrance requirements. For specific course and program prerequisites, consult the calendar or Admissions Services.

Students with a C- or C in one of the above qualify by obtaining a C+ minimum in either Math 151 or Math 152

Principles of Math 11 (C) or Applications of Math 11 (C)

Math 151

Principles of Math 11 (C+) or Applications of Math 12 (C+) or Principles of Math 12 (D) or equivalent

Math 152

Math 151 (C) or Principles of Math 12 (D) or equivalent

Math 154

Permission of Math Department Coordinator

Math 161

Principles of Math 11 or Applications of Math 11 or equivalent

Principles of Math 11 (C+) or Applications of Math 11 (C+) or equivalent

Note: students without a strong high school math background are advised to take Math 151 prior to taking Math 191.

Physics:

  • Applications of Physics 12 is acceptable (considered equivalent to Physics 11) in meeting course prerequisites.
  • Principles of Physics 11 and 12 are considered equivalent to Physics 11 and 12.
