In British Columbia, these Career Programs include:

Many Career Preparation Programs are now offering Applied Academics courses as critical components of their programs.

HOW DO STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM
APPLIED ACADEMICS AND CAREER PROGRAMS?

Applied learning! The way students learn in Applied Academics courses is well suited to Career Programs. In both situations, students:

  • apply their classroom learning to situations in the work world

  • see the connections between the theory they are learning and where it is used outside the classroom

  • show employers what they can "do" as well as what they "know"

  • answer the question, "Why am I learning this?"

  • realize that math and physics skills apply to workplace needs and demands

  • gain transferable employability skills such as "teamwork skills" - employers want people working in a collaborative way on the work site, and

  • experience success with learning.
