Each year in early spring, a General Specifications and Standards List is sent to suppliers of school buses for the purpose of costing vehicles of different capacities and options. The capital allowances for school buses are based upon the following criteria:

  • lowest cost submitted by suppliers for each school bus size
  • projected increase in price between the time when the capital program is approved by the Minister and when school districts can call tenders in the following spring
  • Provincial Sales Tax
  • Goods and Services Tax (at 2.24 percent).
