New Modular Classrooms for B.C. Schools

More than 135 new modular classrooms will be installed in 25 school districts around the province for full-day kindergarten in September 2011. They will be safe and healthy places for our youngest students to learn and grow.

Features include:

  • Wood finishes on exterior and interior walls
  • Heating and cooling systems that will withstand variations in B.C.’s climate
  • Wiring for technology, including built-in data outlets
  • Colourful ceiling panels that also create excellent acoustics
  • Washroom infrastructure should school districts choose to install them.

Districts will work with their schools to determine which of their students will learn in the new classrooms, which are designed to last as long as conventional classrooms – about 40 years – and are a permanent, versatile solution that can be relocated or grouped (PDF, 220KB) together to meet future enrolment needs.

In October 2010, Shelter Industries won the contract to design, build, deliver and install these modular classrooms.
