Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When will I get my Grade 12 Graduation Program Examinations Scholarship?
A. The majority of Scholarship packages are sent to students in mid-August. Those students whose marks do not meet the deadline date for the August mailout will receive their packages in September.
Q. I did not receive my scholarship package in August and I know I qualified for one. What do I do?
A. It could be that the Ministry did not have your current address. You should contact the Ministry at (250) 356-2449 or 356-2443 with your current address. Please have your nine digit Personal Education Number (PEN) and date of birth ready. If your scholarship package was returned to the Ministry it can then be forwarded to your change of address.
Q. Will I qualify for an Examinations scholarship based on exams that I wrote in August?
A. Yes, you may qualify for an Examinations scholarship based on your August results. You will be sent a scholarship package in late September.
Q. How are the Examination Scholarship scores calculated?
A. A student must receive 86% or higher in three of their best Grade 12 provincial examination scores (except Communications 12). A student must also achieve at least a “B” in English 12. (English 12 can also be used as one of the three best examination scores as long as it is 86% or over.) A student must also be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant).
Q. My exam results do not show that I am a scholarship winner but I think that I am. What do I do?
A. You should check with your high school to determine if they have reported your citizenship correctly. If you are a permanent resident or landed immigrant your school should have reported you as “Canadian”. Your school should also check whether they have sent in all your marks and if you have met all the other criteria.
Q. How do I apply for a Dogwood District Authority Award Scholarship?
A. You need to apply directly to your school district office or your high school. You should speak with a counselor in your high school.
Q. When will I receive my Dogwood District Authority Award Scholarship?
A. You will receive the first part ($500 cheque) in October and the second part ($500 voucher and certificate) in November.
Q. I have lost my Scholarship voucher. What do I do?
A. Under the scholarship section of the awards website is a request form to complete and send to the Ministry with a $25 administrative fee. When this is received we will send you a replacement voucher.
