2007 Teachers’ Congress

- WHAT is the Teachers’ Congress?
The Teachers’ Congress is an annual event that brings public, independent, band school and student teachers from across the province together to participate in a day-long dialogue with colleagues and the Minister of Education. The Congress helps to shape the future direction of education in B.C., through engage, productive dialogue.
- WHERE and WHEN is it taking place?
The Congress will be held on November 30, 2007 at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver.
- HOW many teachers will be attending and how will they be selected?
Approximately 100 teachers from across the province will be randomly selected by an organization external to the Ministry. Selected teachers will receive an invitation, as well as travel and accommodation information by email during the week of October 29, 2007.
- HOW much will it cost?
The ministry will reimburse teachers for all travel and associated costs such as; airfare, public transportation, parking, mileage. Accommodation on Thursday November 29, 2007 and meals for the duration of the event will also be covered. The ministry will not cover incidental room charges or any other personal costs participants incur.
- WHAT are the accommodation arrangements?
Accommodation has been booked for teacher participants for the night of Thursday November 29, 2007. After receiving confirmation of selection teachers will receive further information on accommodation.
Participants wishing to stay beyond November 29, 2007 will be responsible for making their own accommodation arrangements. Consideration will be taken for participants who are travelling from remote areas and may encounter flight restrictions.
- HOW can travel and accommodation reservations be made?
Teachers should not make travel arrangements until their participation in the Congress has been confirmed. The ministry will not reimburse travel arrangements that are made before this time.
Once selected, teachers will receive further information on travel and accommodation. Travel arrangements should be made by participants and receipts submitted to the ministry after the Teachers’ Congress for reimbursement.
Teachers will be requested to confirm the time and method of their travel, after which time they will receive an itinerary with details of the event, activities, etc.
- WHO pays for TOC costs while participants are at the Congress?
TOC costs will be paid by the Ministry. School Districts should invoice BCSTA.
