Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS)
The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is organized by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). Forty countries from around the world participated in the most recent assessment (PIRLS 2006).
PIRLS measures the reading literacy of Grade 4 students. PIRLS takes place on a five-year cycle. The most recent assessment took place in 2011.
PIRLS questionnaires are administered to students, parents, teachers, and principals in order to better understand factors that may be associated with reading performance.
